August 29th marked our opportunity to run a parking lot at the Niles Antique Fair and raise funds to support the troop programs for next year. Sunday evening was capped off by a great BBQ and a chance to relax with old friends we have missed during the summer.
Ten scouts and five leaders travelled over 400 miles to Northern California’s Klamath River for a week of white water canoeing on Saturday August 14th. The first day was learning the basics of how to handle the canoe in rapids. After that they set out down the Klamath River. Initially a few of the canoes dumped their occupants, but as the week progressed the canoers did a much better job of keeping dry. Saw lots of wildlife including bald eagles and a black bear. Ran Class 1, 2 and 3 rapids with most everyone making it through without dumping by the end of the week.
Nine families took the trip to Ed Levin Park for a Family Campout on the 7th and 8th. Everyone had a great time. Softball, volleyball and just plain relaxing were the main events. Saturday night was capped by a roaring campfire with skits and songs by everyone. All those who attended look forward to next years Family Campout.
