On Friday evening the 21st, 11 scouts traveled to Pack 272’s Pack Meeting to help out. While the Cub Scouts were having uniform inspections the Boy Scouts from Troop 103 provided entertainment for the Cubs that were not involved in the inspection. Troop 103 had stations for first aid, knot tying, Kim’s game, and rope making where they demonstrated these skills to the Cubs.
On Saturday the 8th, 16 scouts distributed bags to local homes as part of the “Scouting For Food” can food drive. The following Saturday 13 scouts picked up the filled bags during an early morning rain storm. As we finished up the collection the clouds parted and the sun came out. When all the bags were totalled, Troop 103 collected 1562 cans, 58 glass containers, and 304 containers of dry food to be be distributed to the needy.
After distributing the Scouting-For-Food bags on the 8th, 14 scouts went on a camp out to Rancho Los Moches. Since it was a short one night camp out and because we had a late start after the bag distribution, Mrs. Hansen and Mrs. DeGregorio cooked lunch (hot dogs and hamburgers) while the scouts got their tents and camp sites set up. After lunch the troop divided into two groups and used their pioneering skills to make catapults using poles and rope. When completed, a water balloon shooting contest took place using the newly built catapults as launching devices. While the aim was not always the best, a great deal of fun was had by participants and spectators alike. On Sunday morning the scouts took advantage of the rifle and archery range to hone their skills. The scouts who attended are now experts at hitting the target with their bows, rifles, and catapults.
